Venezuela launches New Currency

Hugo Chavez (BBC profile) a Noam Chomsky "fan" pictured here with BBC reporter Greg Palast is committed to healing Venezuela. Venezuela is recovering after being ravaged by the IMF ,the World Bank and their policies of Disaster Capitalism launched the "strong Bolivar" today. The New currency is part of his economic program of returning Venezuela to the Venezuelans. The Bolivar is listed at 2.15 to the dollar. Of course you can bet the USA will be spreading propaganda about Chevez and the horror of DE privatizing his country. To Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of Venezuela's history , it ought be clear what drives the usa nuts is that Chevez is a Democratic Socialist, uniting with other Latin American Countries with a committment to return those countries back to their people (especially the Indigenous People). Latin America is becoming "shock proof". No longer vulnerable to Economic Hit Men sent by multinationals. - Viva La Revolution ! -
You watch , our news will try to portray this as a bad thing , but don't be fooled , its fantastic ! Some critics complain Venezuela is at 20% inflation. Makes me wonder what OUR true inflation rate is...who among us isn't paying a lot more for just about every thing. esp food, housing and fuel ? As for oil... hmmm.. lets see that would make a barrel of oil at 100 bucks, well over 200 dollars. Get ready people , we are in for and interesting ride and the USA has some really bad Karma building after being a bad player on the Global Playgroud for the last few Centuries. Simon Bolivar is pictured on the new 100 Bolivar.

9 Left us Notes:
Way to go Venezuela! The more other countries break off from the financial domination by a few, the better. Also stopped by to wish you a Happy New Year. Let us work together to head back in the direction of sanity
TY Fran, and yep thats the plan,to work together and find the solutions to "shock proof" ourselves and communities. Having finished the Shock Doctrine..i gotta tell ya, it does have a happy ending, and gives a great lens in which to understand the forces at work, hence we will realize how and in what direction we need to go in AFTER our own economic meltdown. etc. Its critical we all see the BIG PICTURE.
Here is to recycling , re using, and worker owned CO OPs , no more abandoned factories in the USA - we need to get em going manufacturing sustainable energy/green products,
We have messed around in those SA countries so much, it's a wonder they still function at all. 20% Inflation in Venezuela? Maybe they are counting EVERYTHING in their statistics. Unlike ours, wherein things like oh, housing & utility bills are excluded.
Good news! Our library informed me they have finally ordered Shock Doctrine & I am #1 on the notification list. About time.
ps, I may not love Hugo, but anyone who gets up in front of the UN & called Bush "El Diablo" has my lifelong admiration.
South American nations are paying the price for linking their currency to worthless U.S. greenback.
Argentina went down this path back when Saint Reagan was president and most economists say they have never really recovered.
The sprint to destroying the greeenback is, in my opinion, the last step before the globalists announce the Amero monetary scheme. A combined US dollar, Canadian dollar and Mexican peso, based on the Euro.
I remember reading about the Amero at least a decade ago. Most people said it was the blatherings of conspiracy freaks and fanatics but nowadays, Bush administration officials speak freely about it.
"Returning Venezuela to the Venezuelans" -- Nooo!!! Who in the F#$% do those dumb Meskins think they are anyway??? God created them for one purpose: to serve US.
Who do you think we'll invade first, Iran or Venezuela?
Who Hijacked Our Country
just a quick note- and I will be back...
BUT Rachel Maddow is on the Panel tonight reviewing the Caucus results- WOW...Yahooooo ( finally a smart woman....)
okay back to watching the "show"....
Hi E, and everyone , yeah so much going on, I have been reading the Howard Zinn book A People's History of America, watching the caucus, Feeling mighty strongly about Edwards and Obama, so glad to see shill, getting a surprize. Either one would be a step in a better direction. Viva la Change. and we got a lot of changing to do, and there are age old powerful forces who do NOT want to see it happen.
Hmmm its all so interesting i am laying low, been really falling behind on my blog rounds but i will get back in the groove soon. Now back to the show, and my book. Soo much reading to do. Not enough hrs in the day.
hee hee 3rd for hill, too bad, soo sad - NOT !!!
Thanks for this post- given the new year and all the Iowa stuff going on, I had missed this story somehow.
I am of a very mixed mind about Chavez. That said, I am not of a mixed mind at all of how we have completely raped and pillaged South America.
This is an interesting development. I will say this on Chavez's behalf- he is not afraid to take bold stands like this and for that I laud him!
Best to you for 2008!
I am also "of mixed mind" about Chavez. The citizens of Venezuela don't get paid enough, & a lot more of their money goes to the government (privatized!) Giving oil to New Hampshire was a political game.
I agree that most of the world is figuring out ways to value currencies so they aren't all connected to the falling dollar. That's a good idea, depending...
The fact is that the countries of S.A. have a lot of resources so they CAN support more growth & fairness (if they want to) in their homelands.
I think that Chavez' plan is for a political, more than economic purpose. He just took off 3 zeroes so the Bolivar looked more reasonable. It was falling due to inflation....what are they doing about the reality of that?
Brazil's economy has grown something like 70% in the past year because of this (metals mainly). And they are doing it somewhat more intelligently than Ven.
Oh, this is such an elaborate topic and I have work to do. If anyone is interested, you can read up on it!
XOXOXOX
