Beth Orton - Concrete Sky +

Here is another beautiful androgynous soulFULL musician Beth Orton. She is English, this is her biography from a UK fan site. She has some unusual surprises in her life , a great political consciousness, trials and tribulations including Crohn's disease, not laughing matter. The video is a bit cheesey for my tastes, i blame the record company, she deserves something deeper, not this "promo". Something more like the "related" vid below it,after this one plays, called "We don't Torture",Videopreditor does indeed have an interesting ytvid. selection. BUT this song is so sweet and haunting. What a voice, what a writer, musician, this song - Concrete Sky, on her third album Daybreaker. I'm in a musical mood lately.

The American Empire is imploding its not secret. Just read a few essays on Common Dreams. The writing is on the wall. And the people are feeling it,now, dispite, misleading economic indicators. Many scholars and historians are saying, and I happen to agree, its too late to save it, the pendulum swinging model does not apply anymore. There is a greater Depression coming, it will make the last one look like a bad mood and there is nothing we can do to stop it. We can however, to hold on tight and simplify our lives as much as possible. We will witness, the end of America as we know it and soon. Learning to live with less, a re ordering will ultimately take place of American Life, it will not be bloodless or without loss of life.
Little Boots, just ensured/revealed what will be our fate (and the plan, since day one of fucking "shock and awe") "We are to be - In Iraq forever" , with the so called priciples of u.s. Iraq "friendship" ?? It stinks. * this site is the WH official site* just a heads up.
We knew it !!! dammit ! The Shock Doctrine, disaster Capitalism YEP Naomi Klein has been saying it all along even just released her new book The Shock Doctrine

So now its official and out in the open. The Neo's plan to be in Iraq forever, for the benefit of the Oil Mongering Hegemony they envision. WE are going the way of the British and other Over Reaching Empires. Any Imperialist country with an over extended military and economy - the mixture has only one ending.(we have between at least, 700-1000 Military bases in over 130 countries) On a synchronistic Note, i just saw the documentary Why We Fight - it came out in 05 , I had heard it was good , but people its great ! It has my hero and Over Reaching Empire scholar, author - Chalmers Johnson in it ! And many other notable people, actually telling the Iraq occupation story for real, with both historical and very VERY current references. All the propaganda and who peddled it and how, revealed with interviews and real truth telling. And the propaganda continues today, despite the whistle blowers. Its a must see documentary. Totally current and totally true. On a happy odd, NOTE - of all places Starz Channel is showing it ! My gawd, they have changed, this means your average cable enabled six pack Joe and Jane could see the truth. The truth is getting out there even on the teevee. GO FIGURE !
Maybe it will help people prepare and comprehend what is really going down. That gives me hope, i do not relish, can hardly bare it fact, the suffering of others..(being a Pisces, my empathy is almost crippling at times). Things will continue to deteriorate, but knowing a great storm is on its way,the first gusts of winds and darkening if not "concrete" skies are already sensed. Maybe people will plan ahead. Not a one of us will be Unaffected. Only the 1% wealthiest as usual will manage..that is a story as old as mankind. PS If you are invested - its time to change your portfolio, to foreign currencies/gold or other non traditional mutual fund choices. Take control now. Me I do not have a dime in invested. But so many do,even in simple 401ks.

yours truly - Merry Sunshine.

Soooo, we mind as well have a soundtrack while we garden, recycle, re use and prepare ourselves as best we can,for the very rough times ahead. music and art are timeless. Eternal through time, Our collective human spirit. All have our favorites. I would love to know your perhaps more obscure musical indulgences. Stuff that really speaks to your heart, moves you, soothes you, stays with you and synergizes your energy and spirit, during all the many many changes we all go through. Stuff that keeps your spirit strong. Stuff that sustains you, while we reconfigure our individual lives to be "sustainable" as quickly and radically as we can. We all stay politically informed. We live in an communally insane time. Feel free to react to any aspect you want to in post. Me, i personally think Beth is drop dead gorgeous.

Ok, I'm back after a read of this excellent and soulful post.

I agree with you that the United States is in decline and will probably not recover in ways that even resemble what we have known.

    But...

Putting aside (as hard as this is) the suffering that we have caused and what may soon be visited on our own damn selves, the destruction of this country may in the end be good.

People confuse greatness with power. We have been powerful, but historically we have not been a Great Country, inspite of our chest beating. We do not, nor have we ever acted from intelligence and compassion for ourselves or for the world. Every progression forward that we have accomplished has required a years-long battle. None of it came without suffering by those determined to fight for their rights and the rights of others.

So what we might build after our humbling could very well be steps towards actual greatness.

Unfortunately, most of those who can teach us and guide us based on their experience will not be around to usher in the new America and I do not see their equals among the young who will become the next leaders.

(Searching out potential leaders of our future is a good post idea).

The statement "We get what we deserve" is true, and never more true than now. We are gonna have some of that for awhile. Probably a long while. Maybe, once our power is removed we will find out if indeed greatness is possible in this country. Maybe we are capable of creating a Shining Light On The Hill. But we have not yet evidenced that.

Still, the years ahead may give us our best opportunity to prove our worth.

    So I remain, tentatively, hopeful.

yeah- what mirth said :) i intend to live each day as if it were my last. remaining to the last mindful of my fellow human beings and not tolerating any bullcrap from the right. their shortsightedness is destroying not just this country but the planet as well. and- we have no one to blame but ourselves. sad as that is.

we are on the same page all of us, however - i gotta say based on reading a lot of comments on Common Dreams on this subject of our political system , the empire, all the shit that is going down. I took away at least ONE thing...NO WE are NOT ALL TO BLAME. we aren't. Theoretically , mebbe, but in reality there are powerful forces at work, a rigged voting system, a perhaps secret government..and we little people are brainwashed to believing that Its all in our hands. That may be a delusion ! As Stalin said, its not who votes , but who counts the votes , that has the power. or that was the jist. It feels kind of strange, but i too, see or feel that as crummy and painful as the End of this Empire will be IT does HAVE TO HAPPEN. We are living in interesting times as the Chinese would say.

But dispite this grim reality OF COURSE we must continue in our lives to shape and be the change we want to see. Now off to go see Dads Post.

In my internet and new youtube travels i have come across some youth that do "get it" and they are filled with the passion of youth. That is very very hopeful. They are utilizing the new technology. They are reaching out, they are speaking their minds and supporting eachother. The brillance of the youth , many of them at times just blows me out of the water.

Granted the "indigo children" are out numbered by the less evolved - but none the less.- a few passionate people can shape our new world. Its our responsibility to support these "kids" mentor, send good vibes whatever we can do to let them know as older folks we love them and so proud of them.

I'm fairly certain that the US is headed the way of the USSR. Every condition that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union now exists in the United States, first and foremost among them a delusional leadership that is completely clueless about what's going on down in the streets.

People often remark that we seem too complacent, too distracted, too TIMID to rise up. I respectfully remind readers old enough to remember to think about 1984, 1985, 1986. Did ANYONE see the Soviet peoples as ripe for rebellion? Please, look at all the conditions. We are where they were, and we're going where they went. I hope all of you keep this in mind if you get a job offer from Texas, or Alabama, or Mississippi....

I think we may underestimate the level on which the USA is poised to collapse.

Our entire society is built around and upon cheap oil. Our cities are constructed so the places of employment are urban but anybody but the underclass lives many miles away in "bedroom communities."

Our food, on the average, travels over 1,500 miles to reach us. We don't grow much food at all near our urban centers, certainly not enough to feed the people who live there.

Subtract jobs, empire AND cheap oil from the equation; the result is rioting, starvation, death in the concrete jungle.

We won't vote this away. Make a plan, sisters and brothers, make a plan, and work to get it implemented before the shitstorm hits.

yep, its coming a collapse. And the people will react. They will most definitely react. Makes me very certain about the fascist state that is engulfing us. Last night on Olbermann I saw the story about Homeland Fuckin Security , training NYC FIREMAN ...to get this - check people's homes for anything that indicates "hate" or "DISCONTENT" with the United States. If the program is deemed a success it will be part of Firefighter, emt training !!??? across the country.

I will probably do a post on this , geeze we all ought to be aware of the HOMEGROWN TERRORISM ACT OF 07.

It creeps me OUT. I mean i reckon and know now that indeed the gov spies on us all - but NOW they are not even beng secretive about it. SHIT ! There have got to be challenges in the courts , this cannot stand..BUT even if the people win - will we ever be sure the government is NOT against us - viewing us all as suspects ..i think not.
